13News Now Assists in a Successful 2017 Military Dream Week

Our men and women of the military are some of the most important people in the United States. They are devoted to protecting the nation from external aggression and serve every day with honor. The Hampton Roads community is very proud of their military men and women who have served the country for many years. So on Nov 20-24, the Norfolk TV Station 13 News Now in association with Operation Once in a Lifetime and ADS recorded stories of members of the military who needed a helping hand. 13 news then rewarded these service men and women and with various gifts like a baby shower, vacations and vehicle repairs.

One of the stories that aired was that of a military man whose 11-year old son was living in Puerto Rico when hurricane Maria devastated the countryside, leaving many families homeless with no food supply or drinking water. The soldier went all the way to the island to collect his son and bring him back to the states. It is at the airport that he was surprised by the news station with $1000 to help them start fresh. The son and father were delighted to receive the help and overwhelmed with tears.

Another inspiring story is of a military veteran who has children and also takes care of her grandmother. The 13 News crew visited her and she told them how much she tries to take care of her family, but that her car was in dire need of repairs. This has cost her a lot of money in repairs and also leading to inconveniences. 13news crew surprised her with $1,000 dollars for her to repair the vehicle and even she was given another $1000 to take care of her family expenses. And $500 for herself.

13news also visited a lady named destiny who serves in the military together with her husband. She was pregnant, and she had no friends around. Her friend from California called 13news, and they agreed to surprise her with a baby shower. They surprised her with a cake, balloons and also gave her $ 1000 to buy gifts and clothing for their unborn child. Destiny was thrilled with these presents, and now she believes she can cope with whatever is ahead.
